Ross set to take reins at Easter Road as Hibs search nears its end

-

HIBERNIAN appear to be putting the finishing touches to a deal to make Jack Ross their new manager.

The Easter Road outfit have cast their net wide in the search for a successor to Paul Heckingbottom, who was sacked last week after less than nine months in charge.

However, they have plumped for the man who was a frontrunner right from the start and he was expected to be confirmed in the post today.

Ross, the former St Mirren and Alloa Athletic boss, was himself axed by Sunderland just last month but has impressed Hibs’ hierarchy during their talks.

The 43-year-old also held discussions with Hearts, where he was part of the coaching staff for 15 months from July 2014, but will instead be tasked with reviving fortunes on the other side of t he capital.

Meanwhile, Stuart McCall has emerged as a credible contender for the Hearts head coach position.

It i s understood t he former Rangers and Motherwell manager was interviewed by the capital club at an Edinburgh hotel earlier this week.

McCall, 55, has been out of work since departing Scunthorpe in March. He has also had two spells at the helm of Bradford City.

McCall’s most successful period in the dugout came at Fir Park, where he guided Motherwell to successive second-place finishes in the top-flight, qualified for the preliminary rounds of the Champions League and reached the 2011 Scottish Cup Final.

Hibs target Ross and Steve Cotterill have also been interviewed. Former Dundee boss Neil McCann, Dougie Freedman, Neil Warnock and Felix Magath are others in the frame.
