Wellgate to branch out with festival

-

V I SI TOR S to t he We l lgate t h i s December are in for a festive treat, as local charities and businesses decorate and display Christmas trees in the shopping centre.

The display will be organised by business group DD-One, in partnership with Carers of Dundee, and will last from Sunday December 1 to Sunday December 15.

The idea was suggested by local resident Arnot Tipett, who said: “We got the idea for a Christmas tree festival after visiting one by accident in North Wales last year. After a discussion, we realised there wasn’t a similar event locally and decided it was just what Dundee needed.”

Sarah Craig from DD-One said: “When Arnot first approached me with the idea of a Christmas tree festival in Dundee, I could see it fit perfectly with the aims of DD-One.

“It’s a community event that will promote local businesses and raise money for local charities, all in a fun and creative way.”

The event will also help to support

Carers of Dundee, who are very enthusiastic about the partnership.

A spokeswoman from the group said: “We are delighted to be the charity partners of Dundee’s first Christmas tree Festival. Carers of Dundee is a network of organisations, all providing information, advice, and services to people who help care for a family member, neighbour or friend. Christmas can be a difficult time for carers for many reasons and the festival will help raise awareness of the support available in Dundee.”
