Slim win for David Lloyd in doubles
THERE was another round of fixtures in the Dundee and District Badminton League Miller Hendry Ladies and Gents doubles.
In the ladies doubles, hosts David Lloyd have started well with a couple of wins, the latest a 2-1 victory against Roseangle.
This was a tight affair with a win apiece in the opening round of games then a couple of draws meaning it was all to play for in the final games. Kirsten Rear and Alison Hay claimed the pivotal win with a 21-12 24-22 success.
Carnoustie Ladies got their first win with a 5-1 victory over Lunchtime Badminton with Karen Westwater and Fiona Cameron starring with three wins apiece.
In the Gents Doubles Division One, NCR moved level on points at the top following a 3-2 win against Roseangle.
This was another where the decider went to the last round of games, with Ian Dow and
Vlad Voicehovich securing victory with a 21-8 21-10 win.
The other tie in Division One was also a close affair with Darren Scorgie and Ross Wiseman securing a 3-1 victory for Carnoustie Panbride (2) against Nomads with a 21-19, 21-16 win in the final game.
There are still a couple of teams with 100% records in the Gents Doubles Division Two. Lunchtime Badminton lead the table on rubbers difference after a 6-0 win versus Amber.
Kirriemuir have also looked impressive and came through a thrilling match against Monifieth Grove with a fine 3-1 victory. Stephen Cochrane was in cracking form for Kirrie.
In the Miller Hendry Mixed League Two, last season’s Division Three champions Nomads (4) moved to the top of the table with a 6-1 win away to Dundee University (4).
It was tight early on but, after a win in the opening set of the first mixed doubles, the students suffered a blow with an injury to Jiazhen Zhang meaning they had to concede two-and-a-half games. That much put paid to their chances.
NCR have found themselves in the top division following reconstruction of the leagues. They lost 9-0 to Roseangle in their opening fixture.
