Man, 44, charged

-

A MAN is in a critical condition following an alleged assault outside a city school yesterday.

The disturbance took place outside St John’s High School on Harefield Road at around 4pm.

A man, reportedly an OAP, was subsequently taken to Ninewells Hospital where he is in a critical, but stable, condition.

One motorist who witnessed the aftermath of the disturbance said: “Given the volume of emergency responders, I thought someone had been hit by a car.

“There were half a dozen cars at the side of the road and police were taking statements.”

Police confirmed a 44-year-old man had been charged in connection with an alleged assault.

SOME of Tayside’s most dangerous drivers have hu r t led a long a dua l ca r r iageway at speeds upwards of 120mph this year, new figures show.

Data obtained by the Tele via freedom of information requests shows the highest speed captured by cameras on the A90 between Dundee and Stonehaven this year was 124mph.

The driver was logged heading southbound towards Dundee on March 8.

Three other drivers also either hit or exceeded 120mph, with one driver recorded at 123mph on the northbound carriageway just last month.

Each of the 10 highest speeds recorded in 2019 was above 100mph, with all but two logged on the southbound road towards Dundee.

Sergeant Paul Taylor, of Perth Road Policing Unit, has slammed the dangerous drivers.

He said: “Travelling at these speeds is unacceptable. Whether detected by mobile cameras, average speed cameras or police
