Gowfers make their point thanks to Gord

- BY JUNICUS

AN explosive last 15 minutes at Luncarty saw Super League leaders Carnoustie grab an i nju r y-t i me equa l ise r to maintain their lead at the top.

After a fairly open game, it looked like petering out to a goalless draw until the last period produced four goals.

Luncarty opened the scoring through Fraser Mills in 75 minutes but Sam Simpson l evelled three minutes later.

The home side thought they had won it when Richie Montgomery gave them the lead again just on time.

However, the Gowfers went straight up the park with Gordon McDonald earning them a point.

It was another sorry day for Tayport, with the Fifers suffering a 6-0 thrashing from Broughty Athletic at Whitton Park.

The writing was on the wall for The Canniepairt side after only a minute when a Greig McNaughton lob ended up in their net.

They lost another three before the break through Gregor Anderson, Bryan Duell and a Josh Skelly penalty.

Skelly slotted in another spot-kick in 65 minutes and Duell finished off a good move to make it six.

Just to round off an unhappy afternoon for the Fifers, Dayle Robertson sent a last-minute penalty wide.

Downfield continued their winning run with another fine performance at Forfar West End.

Jordan Colquhoun converted a penalty for the Spiders and it proved to be the winner.

Kirrie Thistle were 3-0 winners over Scone Thistle at home to leapfrog their visitors on goal difference.

Dale Reid scored the opener from a spot-kick after 10 minutes and doubled the lead just before the break.

Ryan Winter sealed victory with a third 20 minutes from the end.

NEWBURGH ended a run of three defeats by sharing four goals with visitors Linlithgow Rose CFC to return to second top of the South Premier League.

With goals from Scott Sutherland and Man-of-the-Match Aidan Edwards putting ’Burgh two up after 17 minutes, three points looked on the cards.

However, scorer Sutherland turned sinner when sent off after 36 minutes and the visitors fought back, scoring twice within a minute in the second half, the first of which was from a penalty.

RESULT for the week – FORFAR ALBION haven’t had much to shout about this season but their 3-2 win at Coupar Angus lifted them off the foot of the North Premier League.
