Alloa gaffer Grant blasts ref over United winner

-

ALLOA Athletic boss Peter Grant h a s be moa ned r e fe r ee Joh n McKend r ick for not spott i ng what he thought was a foul in the build-up to Dundee United’s winning goal as his side went down 2-1 at Tannadice.

Wasps gaffer Grant questioned why McKendrick nor his match officials failed to spot what he thought was a foul by scorer Louis Appere on defender Scott Taggart.

Grant claims young United striker Appere pulled Taggart back before sliding in to put the Terrors 2-1 in front on 55 minutes as his side threw away their 1-0 lead they’d gained through a Mark Reynolds own goal in the first half.

“How can Scott Taggart be five yards in front and then Appere ends up five yards in front? There’s only one way, because he pulls him back” the former Celtic man said.

“I don’t like complaining about things like that when you’ve lost games of football but I’d be absolutely annihilating the referee if we won, too.

“I think, and I keep saying it, but it’s because we’re not Dundee United, we’re not one of the big clubs as such but we deserved the same decisions. It’s got to go for us. He gave a foul against Alan Trouten when his elbows are down when he receives the ball.

“If it’s an elbow then he’s off the pitch, so that tells you one thing.

“I thought some of the decisions were mind-blowing at times but that’s been a consistent I think this season. I feel for them at times with all the new rules but when it costs you games, it’s cost us too many times this year.

“He was five yards in front, in the correct decision for a full-back and he ends up five yards behind. There’s only one reason that happens and that cost us the game.”
