Robbo to ‘keep asking’ after Donaldson rejects new Inverness contract

-

INVERNESS manager John Robertson insists the club will do all in its power to retain Coll Donaldson despite failing to agree a new contract with the defender.

Donaldson is out of contract next summer and is among a number of players the Highlanders have begun discussions with over an extended deal.

Robertson revealed there has been no breakthrough in talks with Donaldson, with the 24-year-old keen to weigh up his options before committing his future.

Robertson says he will continue to persist i n persuading Donaldson to sign new terms and he added: “We brought Coll in from Dundee United and he has become an instant hit with the fans and club.

“That’s the reason we’ve offered him a new deal. At this moment in time, he doesn’t want to sign it, he wants to wait – which is his prerogative.

“He is one of three or four players in that situation but he has become a very important player, hence the reason we want to keep him.

“Coll is exercising his right to look about, so we get on with it. At the moment, along with other players, the ball is in their court. All we can do is keep asking the right questions and keep offering contracts.

“We always want to keep the spine of the team strong. Mark Ridgers is a bit further on, Jordan White has been regular for the last season or so, Charlie Trafford and Jamie McCart have been here a couple of seasons, along with guys like Brad Mckay and Carl Tremarco. That’s the ages of players we want to try and attract and keep.

“Hopefully, they see their future with us, which I’m sure if we got promotion would be the case. If they’re ambitious players they’ll want to play in the Premiership and, obviously, that’s not where we are at the moment.”
