Police probe after man’s body found

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

AN investigation has been launched a fter a man’s body was discovered in a supported accommodation facility.

A police presence has remained at the front and rear of a property on Craigmount Road, Charleston, since the discovery of the as-yet unidentified man on Wednesday evening.

Police said their investigation was still ongoing as they carried out door-to-door inquiries to establish the man’s identity.

Neighbours said they were concerned when officers arrived at the scene shortly after 5.40pm.

One woman said police had come to her door asking if she knew the man who lived in the property.

She added: “We didn’t know him very well, he kept himself to himself. Police came to our door asking if we knew him but there wasn’t much more than that to say.

“He had been living there for a few years and we are shocked to hear he has passed away.

“There was concern when we saw police at the front and back door of the property – they’ve been there over the last 24 hours.”

A number of properties in the area are supported by Blackwood Homes, which provides specialist housing and care for those disabilities.

Staff at Blackwood’s office building on Craigmount Road said they couldn’t provide any details about the dead man.

One motorist said there were regular shift changes by police at the property near the junction with Craigard Road yesterday.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Police attended a property on Craigmount Road at 5.40pm on Wednesday December 18 when the body of an unidentified male was discovered.

“Police are treating the death as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”

Blackwood Homes declined to comment.
