West End are given six of the best by Fairmuir

- BY GRAEME FINNAN

FA I R M U I R V i o let maintained their rich form as they moved into the second round of the Peter McAvoy Cup following a welldeserved 6-3 win over For fa r West E nd at Graham Street.

Fairmuir got off to a bright start when the versatile Ethan Samson put them ahead inside five minutes.

However, within 10 minutes, West End stunned their hosts by scoring from a “harsh” penalty then taking the lead.

Fairmuir regrouped and levelled matters after 20 minutes.

Steven Abbot went on a great run, beating three players before squaring to Ross Hazel, who knocked home.

Hazel then turned provider as his corner was headed into the West End net by Zaf Khan to give Graham Buchan’s men an interval lead.

After the break, a few tactical changes in the home camp paid instant dividends as Fairmuir grabbed a fourth on 50 minutes.

Samson showed his class by beating a couple of men before firing in at the near post.

West End then l ost their discipline and had two men sent off and, from that point on, there was only going to be one winner.

A brilliant move which saw 20 or so passes, ended with Hazel knocking the ball to the back post for a simple tap-in for Kieron Bradford.

And Hazel put the icing on the cake with goal No 6 from the penalty spot after he had been brought down in the box after trying to squeeze between two defenders.

There was still time for West End to grab a consolation third goal but it couldn’t take the shine off a terrific Fairmuir display.

“West End would have been among the favourites to challenge for that cup, so it was a great result for us,” said Buchan.

“We are doing well at the moment but it’s important we keep our feet on the ground.”

Fairmuir are back on league duty this weekend against Riverside Tayport.
