Scots and Canada end even

-

IT was honours even in Scotland’s three-match international series against Canada at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth.

The first game finished 5-5, with hosts fighting back form 4-0 down.

The fightback began with a diving finish by Elliott Sandison (Dundee Wanderers), followed by a simple tap in for Jamie Golden (Grove Menzieshill).

A goal each for Jamie and Cammy Golden (Grove Menzieshill) continued Scotland’s revival and a last-second equaliser by Joe McConnell (Western Wildcats) secured a draw.

The second match was quite different as the Scots dominated play, winning 10-2.

Dan Coultas (Grange) netted four with Jamie and Cammy Golden each contributing two goals. Joe McConnell and Stephen Dick each added one in an impressive display by the Scots.

Canada edged the final match 6-5.

Adam MacKenzie,

Gordon Amour, Coultas and Dick (2) counted for the Scots.

Those matches were in preparation for the EuroHockey Indoor Championships III at Santander, Spain, this weekend.

Scotland play Ireland on Friday evening followed by Slovenia and Wales on Saturday.

They finish the group matches on Sunday morning against Spain.

Despite being in the third level of this competition, this is likely to be a tough weekend for the Scots, whose status in the indoor version of hockey has fallen significantly.

The event finishes with the top two from the group playing off along with those in third and fourth on Sunday afternoon.
