Sow form for reserves could see him back in first-team contention

-

WITH three goals in two reserve games, Osman Sow might just be playing himself into contention for what is a busy week ahead for Dundee United.

The Terrors face three games in eight days, with a Scottish Cup replay against Hibs at Easter Road on Tuesday sandwiched between league clashes against Morton and Arbroath.

Sow will be in boss Robbie Neilson’s thoughts after he scored twice against Dunfermline Reserves on Tuesday. He also got himself on the scoresheet in the 7-0 win over Queen of the South Reserves the week before.

Coupled with the fact he has been on the bench for the last two first-team games, the big Swedish striker may be set to resurrect his Tannadice career.

The 29-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Premiership Kilmarnock. However, he was unable to make an impact and left Rugby Park at the start of the January window without a goal to his name and not in new Killie boss Alex Dyer’s plans.

Having made a brief substitute appearance for United at Dunfermline earlier in the season, Sow, who is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, i s unable to play for another club this term.

With another loan out of the question and the season-ending i njury to f e l l o w - f o r wa r d N i c k y Clark, Sow could be an important bit-part player for Robbie as they close in on the Championship title and aim for a run in the cup.

A fully-fit and in-form Sow is a proven quantity at this level and – if he can rediscover his scoring touch – could help ease the burden on star man Lawrence Shankland.

Meanwhile, tickets are now on sale for United’s cup replay at Hibs.
