Assault on mother admitted

AN Angus man manhandled a car seat containing a newborn baby after flying into a rage.

Corrie Anderson pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatenin­g and abusive manner by shouting, swearing, acting in an aggressive manner and pulling at a child’s car seat with a three-weekold baby in it.

The child was said to have become upset during the incident, which happened i n Arbroath some time on December 31 2015 or January 1 2016.

Anderson, 24, also assaulted his mother in the town on January 1 2016.

He seized her by the body, pushed and caused her to fall on to a bed.

Anderson also shouted, swore, acted in an aggressive manner and caused damage to a TV by repeatedly punching it at the same location on the same date.

He was acquitted of a charge alleging he wilfully neglected another newborn baby between October 22 and November 26 2016 by failing to seek medical help for the child when urgent medical attention was needed.

Allegation­s that he exposed the baby, then aged between six and 11 weeks, to “conditions by which he sustained by means unknown blunt force trauma to his body” including broken ribs, arm and leg, were deleted from the charge.

Sheriff John Rafferty said he was considerin­g supervisio­n for Anderson, of Thomas Place, in Arbroath. He deferred sentence until March 27.

Parents of the nine-year-olds, who played for Broughty United, have slammed the club for the “disgusting” way their children were treated.

She said: “It’s disgusting, parents were sent the text messages after the weekend training was cancelled, and to drop my son and the other boys that way is totally unacceptab­le.

“These boys had been with the team for four years and I would have expected feedback or it being done face-to-face.

“There has been some very poor behaviour from some of the stronger players including swearing – even at coaches – fighting and even bullying.

“It’s not been physical but it has continued online when they have been playing games – I flagged it up and nothing was done.

“I think it’s double standards because some of those responsibl­e were some of the better players and they didn’t want to lose them,
