Car parking headache for residents as they’re blocked from homes

-

CONCERNED residents have spoken out about the “total disregard” of their needs by motorists whose parking is plaguing a city scheme.

People living i n t he Craigowan Road area of Dundee say t here are now so many cars parked both sides of the street that they often block residents’ access t o their homes.

Derek Gordon, 55, was one of those who expressed his concerns.

He said: “It’s a total disregard, to be honest.

“There have been times where it has taken me three or more times to reverse out of my drive because of the way people have parked along the street.”

Craigowan Road and the neighbouring Ravenscraig Road are busy residential areas that often experience extra traffic from St Clement’s Primary school, as well as the church.

Mr Gordon said: “Sometimes there will be events on at the hall and people will park on the kerb.

“I have lived here for 22 years but it is only really in the past four years that the parking has got this bad.”

Residents have pointed to the increase in traffic as a reason for the escalation of the problem.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “I think it’s a problem all over the scheme.

“Ev e r y o n e h a s t w o cars now and these streets are not built for that much.

“The roads are quite small and when people park along there it can be difficult for lorries and buses to get past.

“I have been here for 30 odd years but we did not have this when I first came here.”

A spokesman for Dundee City Council said: “We are looking into this.”
