Triple cheer as Dundee sides reach semi-finals
FAIRMUIR had double reason to celebrate as two of their sides reached the Scottish Cup semi-finals last week.
Fairmuir U/15 thrashed Braehead 6-1, while Muir’s U/19 side found it a little tougher, having to go to penalties before seeing off Glenvale – the team who had beat them in last season’s final.
On a good day for Dundee and District YFA sides, East Craigie Swifts also made it through to the last four of the U/19 competition after a Drew Wighton goal gave them a 1-0 win over Clydebank.
Fairmuir president Craig Conway was delighted to see all three local sides progress.
He said: “I’m very proud of both of our teams and it was brilliant to see East Craigie Swifts U/19 winning their quarter-final as well to make it three Dundee teams in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.”
Fairmuir U/19s played against the wind in the first half and found themselves a goal behind to Glenvale
However, a mazy run and finish from Connor Samson levelled it up after the break and the game went to extra time.
Again, with the wind behind then, Glenvale went ahead but Fairmuir dug in and, after the visitors’ keeper parried the ball out from a free-kick, Evan Adam slotted in the leveller.
In the shootout, Fairmuir keeper Cameron Hendry was the hero with some brilliant stops to send the Dundee side through to a semi-final tie against Giffnock.
That game will go ahead at the end of March, with Dens Park pencilled in as a possible venue
Meanwhile, three goals in a 12-minute burst in the first half paved the way for Fairmuir U/15’s 6-1 win against Braehead.
Thomas Cunningham was destroyer-in-chief for ’Muir with four goals while there were singles from Blake Kyles and Harrison Smith.
