Teen cyclist dies in crash with car

- BY LINDSEY HAMILTON

PARAMEDICS fought in vain for almost an hour to save a teenage cyclist’s life after he was involved in a crash with a car.

Witnesses said they looked on in horror as emergency workers battled to save the 15-year-old.

The accident happened at the crossing at the lights on Pitkerro Road, just yards from the Iceland shop, around 7.15pm yesterday.

Emergency services raced to the scene but the boy, who has not yet been named, died.

A large crowd gathered in the aftermath while police sealed off the road to traffic.

Today some of the witnesses who live nearby were still reeling from seeing the tragic events unfold.

Terri Finlayson said: “There were emergency vehicles everywhere. “I saw police and ambulances. “Paramedics were seen to carry out CPR on the boy for ages.

“It’s absolutely tragic that they weren’t able to save his life. It is just awful for his family.’

Also among the witnesses was Jade McMurchie, 29.

She said: “I saw the police and ambulances.

“They were there until after 10pm taking statements and speaking to people.

“Early this morning I saw a small crowd of people gathered at the spot where it happened.

“It is just awful for the family.

“That’s a really busy spot.

“There’s always so many cars there and it can be dangerous crossing the road at those lights.”

Inspector Greg Burns of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with this young’s man family and friends at this tragic time.

“The road was closed to allow crash investigations to be carried out.”

Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward by contacting 101.
