McCart has made huge difference at McDiarmid Park says Saints skipper

-

JASON Kerr rates former Caley Thistle defender Jamie McCart as one of the signings of the year.

McCart swapped Inverness for Perth i n joining St Johnstone i n January and Kerr has been suitably impressed by his new centre-back partner.

Kerr said: “He obviously got a really good schooling at Celtic but playing in the Championship with Inverness has been a big thing. I know that myself from my time at Queen of the South.

“He’s still young – which is the case for the defence as a whole – and he’s vocal. When you l ook at t he players who were signed in January across the league, he has to go down as one of the best.

“We had been improving as a defence before he arrived and that’s continued. He fitted in straight away. The fact that he’s a good lad certainly helped.”

McCart had agreed a pre-contract with t he Saints before the two sides reached an agreement to bring the move forward in the January window.

He will be joined this summer by Shaun Rooney, who has also agreed to move to McDiarmid Park.

Skipper Kerr added: “His (McCart’s) first game was against Celtic – he played really well after coming on at half-time.

“I think Hearts was the next game and he played well in a three that day.

“Gordy (Liam Gordon) was unlucky to get a headknock and drop out. He had been excellent since coming back into the side.

“It could have been either him or me to miss out when we played a two. Jamie’s not even been here for half a season and he’s already shown how important he is to the team.

“The f act that he’s left-footed helps us a lot. It’s a bit of a wand. The manager has been working on playing out from the back more and Jamie’s composure has been really important on that front.”
