McGhee named Dee Players’ Player of the Year for 2019/20

-

JORDAN McGhee has been named top Dee by his team-mates for the past campaign after being crowned Players’ Player of the Year at Dens Park.

Versatile defender McGhee’s fine form over his first season for the Dark Blues has been recognised by the rest of the squad after he came out as winner ahead of seven other nominees.

With no end-of-season awards night due to the coronavirus pandemic, the club are announcing their award winners online.

The first award saw Cammy Kerr win the Goal of the Season gong for his long-range strike against Elgin City in September.

Cutting inside on his left foot, Kerr smashed the ball into the roof of the net from the best part of 30 yards.

The Dark Blues would suffer a Challenge Cup shock that day, however, as the League Two outfit ran out 2-1 winners.

That award was followed up by McGhee’s.

A signing from recentlyrelegated Falkirk last June, McGhee has shone all season i n t he Dee backline.

After being used primarily as a right-back by the Bairns, McGhee has played the majority of the season at centre-half for the Dark Blues.

He has shown versatility at times, stepping i nto full-back positions and has been arguably the team’s most consistent performer in an inconsistent campaign.

McGhee f eatured 30 times last season, rarely missing out.

He scored two goals, netting t wice i n t hree matches back in September.

His first for the club was a winner against Alloa before he equalised in a Friday night clash at Queen of the South that ended 1-1.

Former winners of the award include Scott Bain, Glen Kamara and Nathan Ralph.
