Man denies threats and harassment charges

A MAN allegedly harassed a woman over a nine-month period before striking another man with a knife.

Graham Tarbett is also alleged to have threatened the woman in a bid to influence evidence in a court case.

Tarbett denies engaging in an abusive course of conduct t o wa r d s the woman at an address on Kirk Street between April 1 2019 and January 14 this year.

He is accused of repeatedly phoning and texting the woman as well as sending social media messages. Tarbett is charged with stating he would carry out acts of vandalism and acts of violence on her partner if she entered a new relationsh­ip.

The 21-year-old allegedly attended at t he address in possession of a knife before struggling with a man and striking him with it.

On January 15, Tarbett allegedly repeatedly phoned the woman and made violent threats in an attempt to influence evidence and pervert the course of justice. He allegedly breached bail conditions by contacting the woman.

Ta r b e t t , o f K e m n a y Gardens, did not appear at Dundee Sheriff Court but had a plea of not guilty tendered by defence solicitor Mike Short. A trial was fixed for November.

A 54-YEAR-old man is facing claims he endangered the life of another man by knocking him unconsciou­s with a metal pole.

David Merrigan, of Anderson Court, Carnoustie, is alleged to have carried out an attack at an address on the town’s Maule Street on May 26.

Merrigan made no plea in connection with the allegation when he appeared from custody on petition at Dundee Sheriff Court.

It is alleged he assaulted the man by repeatedly striking him on the head with a metal pole.

This allegedly caused the man to lose consciousn­ess to his severe injury and to the danger of his life. Merrigan’s case was continued f or f ur t her examinatio­n and he was released on bail.
