Another chance for pyjama-clad bail breacher
A PYJAMA-CLAD woman who breached a bail order on the day it was imposed celebrated after a sheriff gave her another chance.
Leigh Stevens was locked up after repeatedly flouting bail orders preventing her from contacting her former partner.
During one incident, Stevens said she would smash the woman’s window and stab her.
The 26-year-old was granted bail from Dundee Sheriff Court on May 12 but Stevens, who appeared in court wearing pyjamas, immediately went to the woman’s address in a bid to obtain money and belongings.
Stevens appeared from custody the following day and was remanded after pleading guilty to breaching the conditions.
Yesterday, Stevens was given a chance to prove she can behave herself after appearing in court via video link from HMP Edinburgh.
She previously pleaded guilty to shouting at the woman and threatening her with violence on Dura Street on April 20 while subject to four separate bail orders.
Defence solicitor Anika Jethwa said her client fully appreciated the “toxic” relationship was over and had no intention of contacting the woman.
Ms Jethwa said: “She was in a cycle of drug misuse and mental health problems. Prior to her incarceration, she was in a bad way and she seems much more stable, much more focused.”
She added: “This is a toxic relationship which has resulted in both parties being arrested.”
Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown deferred sentence until October for a supplementary report and released her from custody.
Stevens could be heard saying “******* yes” following the sheriff’s decision.
