Bigoted lout, 20, remanded

-

A SHERIFF remanded a bigoted lout who dished out homophobic, religious and racist abuse towards police officers at a city supermarket.

David Conroy made the remarks at Asda, Milton of Craigie, where he was picked up by officers and on the subsequent journey to police headquarters on West Bell Street in the city centre on Monday.

Conroy was remanded in custody ahead of being sentenced after he pleaded guilty at Dundee Sheriff Court.

The 20-year-old admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by acting aggressively towards police officers.

He also admitted repeatedly shouting and swearing at both officers before making homophobic, religious and racial remarks towards them.

Sheriff Gregor Murray deferred sentence on Conroy, of Hilltown Court, until next month for social work reports.

Conroy was remanded in custody.

A GR A N DFAT H E R has said goodbye to his 50-inch trousers after a “rollercoaster” weight loss battle over the past decade.

At one point in his late 30s, Ferg Hutchison, now 50, was tipping the scales at 23 stone.

The former High School of Dundee pupil had made initial efforts to shift his bulky frame during his 40s, losing more than six stone.

But life returned to “normal” and, as the pounds crept back on, the former rugby player knew he had to banish the weight in order to prolong his life and see his grandson, Max, grow up.

He added: “This has been a long road.

“The initial turning point for me was when I saw a photograph of myself. I actually had no neck.
