Woman hit by car taken to hospital

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

A WOMAN was taken to hospital after she was involved in a collision with a car in Dundee.

Emergency crews were called to a section of the Hilltown, connecting Alexander Street and Constitution Street, shortly after 5pm.

Traffic police remained at the scene for several hours and the road was sealed off at both ends.

One man said officers had a measuring tape out and appeared to be focusing on an area where there was blood on the ground.

He said: “There were a number of people being interviewed when I arrived.

“There was a pool of blood visible on the road.

“Some folk said there had been a woman lying on the ground who was taken away in an ambulance.”

One woman, who declined to be named, said there were two ambulances on the scene at one stage.

She added: “We couldn’t get down because the road was obviously closed off.

“There were a lot of police on the scene.

“When I saw the size of the cordon I knew it must have been a fairly serious incident.

“The police seemed to be interviewing a number of people and there was also an unmarked car in attendance.

“I just hope the woman is OK.” One man, who was standing outside Cookies Bar moments after the accident, said there had been a “rapid” emergency response.

He added: “We were aware there was a woman lying on the ground but I’m not sure how old she was or what had happened.

“The ambulance crew was here really quickly in the minutes after the incident.

“The police closed the road off in both directions and the woman was whisked away in an ambulance.”

Police confirmed a woman, believed to be in her 60s, had been taken to hospital.
