Tayport boss points to the dangers of Pansies

- BY JUNICUS

ALTHOUGH they have won their opening two fixtures, Tayport gaffer Chris McPherson believes tomorrow’s trip to Glenesk to face Violet could be their stiffest test to date.

He said: “We played them in a pre-season friendly and it could have gone either way.

“Violet have also made a good start to the season, so we will see what happens but it should be a tight match.”

Lyall Shaw remains on the injured list but everyone else is available to McPherson.

Pansies boss Andy Heggie agrees it will be a tough game but an opening-day win and a hard-earned draw against North End last week has instilled confidence in the camp.

Like McPherson, Heggie concurred the friendly match was close and sees no reason why they can’t give the Fifers a run for their money.

He hopes to have a full pool at his disposal.

Jamie McCunnie was a much happier manager after last week’s victory over Blairgowrie and is looking for a repeat at Victoria Park against Brechin Vics.

“What a difference a week can make in football,” said McCunnie.

“It was like watching a different team against Blairgowrie.

“We played on the front foot right from the start and it was the reaction I was looking for after our poor performance in our opening fixture.

“We now look forward to Brechin Vics and, despite their heavy loss to Tayport last week, we will take nothing for granted.”

The Fed will be without Kieron Conway and have another couple of players nursing injuries and they face late fitness tests.

After a free week, Downfield head for Davie Park, Blairgowrie, where they will be looking to build on their opening-day victory over Broughty Athletic.

The odds will favour Carnoustie making it three wins in a row when they face a Coupar Angus side who have conceded 23 goals in their opening two fixtures.

For the first time this season, manager Phil McGuire is able to go into the game with a full squad available.
