Trial fixed for man on sexual comments charges

-

A TRIAL has been fixed for a man accused of making sexual comments towards two women.

James Govan allegedly committed the offences without the consent of the women on Wednesday.

It is alleged that Govan caused the first woman to hear a sexual verbal communication by directing sexual remarks towards her at an address in Montrose.

Govan, of the town’s Mount Road, is alleged to have committed an identical offence towards a second woman on the same date.

The 29-year-old pleaded not guilty when he appeared from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court.

Govan had a trial fixed for June by Sheriff Keith O’Mahony.

The trial will take place at Forfar Sheriff Court.

A FURTHER hearing has been fixed for a man charged with trying to break free from police after throwing a bottle at a woman.

Sean Hughes is accused of committing the offences on Union Street, where he resides, on April 10.

Hughes denies assaulting a woman by throwing a plastic bottle at her and repeatedly seizing her by the clothing.

The 50-year-old is also charged with shouting, swearing and making threats of violence.

He then allegedly used his body weight to try to break free from PCs Jamie Hays and Matthew Rhind.

It is alleged he then used his feet to trip them up.

A fourth charge alleges Hughes shouted, swore, acted aggressively and made threats of violence.

At Dundee Sheriff Court, a further intermediate diet was fixed for later this month.

TWO new give-and-take food boxes have been set up in Muirhead and Birkhill to support those struggling this winter.

The boxes, placed outside the Scout Hut in Muirhead and the Millennium Hall in Birkhill, have been described as a “foodbank with no rules”.

Project leader Fiona Ross said volunteers wanted to push forward and have them in place before Christmas to ensure people have food on the table.

She said: “We are hoping for a leap of faith from the community to make sure it is used properly.

“I have been totally impressed with the speed
