OAP faces driving charge
AN 89-year-old man has been accused of driving through red lights before narrowly avoiding a crash.
John Brackenridge is charged with driving dangerously on Arbroath Road, at the junction with Fairfield Road, and Claypotts Road, on July 14.
The pensioner allegedly failed to observe and obey a red light before causing his car to mount a pavement and grass verge.
Brackenridge, of Carseview Terrace, Forfar, allegedly drove along the grass verge at excessive speeds before rejoining the roadway.
He is then alleged to have failed to observe a second red light, causing other drivers to take evasive action.
Brackenridge was not present when the case called at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Following a motion by defence solicitor John Boyle, the case was continued without plea until January by Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown.
A MAN has denied pinning his ex-partner to a bed and repeatedly punching her.
David Penman allegedly attacked the woman at an address on Sandeman Street on November 23 last year.
Court papers allege the 26-year-old, of Arbroath’s Queen Street, repeatedly struck the woman on the head with his hand before pinning her to a bed and repeatedly punching her on the head and body.
Penman is also alleged to have acted aggressively, shouted, swore and threatened violence during the incident.
A letter was submitted to Dundee Sheriff Court from Penman’s solicitors pleading not guilty to the charge.
Sheriff Jillian MartinBrown fixed a trial for July.
