Tributes paid to city schoolgirl

- BY AMY HALL

IT’S not his favourite time of year, but given the 12 months we’ve all endured, even The Grinch has decided to pitch in and deliver presents.

Tony Stewart, owner of children’s party supply firm Bears and Bouncys, decided to don the famous green mask add a touch of festive magic to the Christmas run-in.

Tony, who lives in Kirkton, will wear the outfit of the iconic Dr Seuss character and hand deliver his builda-bear Christmas Eve boxes.

He started the business just before lockdown and decided to finish off the year in the festive spirit.

He said: “I saw a woman who does elf visits around the area and noticed that kids seemed to love it, so I took inspiration from her and decided to make the deliveries a bit more special.

“I have done a few visits so far and while a lot of the kids have been so excited and loved it, some of

them had to warm up to The Grinch and were a bit scared at first, but overall it has had a really great reaction.

“I just wanted to boost the kids’ happiness a bit after everything that has happened this year, and I already had the costume from last year so I thought I would go for it.

“Parents can order the box which comes with the teddy skin, stuffing, and a wish star which they can put inside and a birth certificate for their bear. They also get a balloon.

“This Christmas is going to be a strange one and this lockdown has been hard on the kids not getting to see their friends, so this gives them the opportunity to make a new friend and also do an activity with their parents on Christmas Eve.”

The boxes can be purchased via bearsandbouncys.co.uk and every box ordered in the area will be hand delivered by The Grinch himself.

TRIBUTES have been paid to a Dundee schoolgirl following her tragic death.

Senior pupils at Grove Academy learned Alana Lynch, 16, had died after a statement from the school rector was read out by class teachers.

Many pupils were left in tears following the tragic revelation.

The Tele understands fellow students were told the fifth year pupil’s death was the result of a freak accident. Last night, local sports club Kanzen Karate, whose members knew the family, paid tribute to the teen.

A statement on its Facebook page read: “We were very saddened to hear of the sudden passing of 16-year-old Alana Lynch on Monday – sister of former squad member Anya and daughter of Kim.

“Our thoughts are with the entire family. Losing a loved one is incredibly difficult, words cannot express what the family are going through.

“We have organised some sessions on the morning of Christmas Eve to raise funds for the Lynch family in order to help with costs. Costs are £5 per session (or more if you wish) and please book your place by emailing royokane@kanzenkarate.net.”

Dundee City Council leader John Alexander responded to the tragic news saying: “This is a tragic and heartbreaking loss. As a father, first and foremost, my heart goes out to the entire family.”

Police Scotland were approached for comment.
