City school Covid case

- BY LAURA DEVLIN

A POSITIVE case of Covid19 has been confirmed at a school in Dundee.

In a letter to parents and carers, Kingspark confirmed someone who has links to the school had tested positive for the virus.

It added: “The close contacts of this person will be identified by the health protection team (HPT) at NHS Tayside and now must enter isolation. This is a precaution. The isolation is from the date of last contact for 10 days.”

The school reassured parents and carers all close contacts of the individual would be contacted, and the school remains open as normal.

A Dundee City Council spokesman added: “We are aware of a case connected to the school and have been working closely with NHS Tayside.

“With the assistance of public health, we are ensuring appropriate measures are being taken.

“The school has communicated with all families in their community directly about this.”

Kingspark was previously forced to close just a week into the academic year when a cluster of cases linked to it were discovered.

The August outbreak saw 23 staff, three pupils and 14 community contacts with positive tests.

Meanwhile, senior pupils at St John’s High School will continue to work remotely up until the Christmas break.

About 30 staff members are self-isolating, with council bosses deciding S4-6 pupils will stay at home for remote learning until term ends on Wednesday December 23.

There has been no change for S1-3 pupils.

Councillor Stewart Hunter, children and families convener, said: “With the number of staff continuing to self-isolate it is not possible to deliver the full curriculum across the school.

“Online resources will continue to be made available to S4-6 pupils for course work, with teachers in self-isolation delivering lessons virtually until the end of term.

“We are aware of a number of coronavirus cases connected with the school and we have been working closely with NHS Tayside.

“A significant number of pupils are also now self-isolating because of contact tracing.”
