Men to stand trial on police assault charges

-

TWO men accused of police assault will stand trial later this year.

James Lindsay, of Fintryside, and Fintry Drive man John Lindsay allegedly committed the offences at an address on Balmullo Square on Wednesday.

The pair pleaded not guilty to the charges at Dundee Sheriff Court.

John Lindsay, 38, allegedly assaulted PC Mark Reid by barging into him and causing him to lose his footing.

He is accused of repeatedly shouting and making threats towards police officers after adopting an aggressive attitude.

James Lindsay, 41, allegedly shouted and swore repeatedly after adopting an aggressive attitude.

Prosecutors allege he repeatedly punched a police vehicle.

Following their appearance from custody, both men had a trial fixed for August by Sheriff George Way and they were released on bail.

THREE men have denied attacking and robbing another man in a city street.

HMP Perth prisoners Daniel Blake and Edward Prus along with Alexander Whyte, of Hepburn Street, allegedly attacked the man on Provost Road on August 12 last year.

The trio allegedly seized his body, placed him in a headlock and restricted his breathing before dragging him.

It is alleged the man was also lifted from the ground. Prosecutors claim the attack caused the man to suffer injury to the danger of his life.

Blake, 42, Prus, 39, and Whyte, 44, allegedly robbed the man of a roll-up, £60 in cash and a mobile phone.

A separate charge alleges Blake assaulted Simon Pedgrift, a force support officer, at police headquarters, West Bell Street, by seizing him, causing him to fall before holding him down and struggling with him.

Blake claims he acted in self-defence.

Solicitors acting for the trio tendered not guilty pleas on their behalf when the case called at Dundee Sheriff Court.

A NEW mental health walking group has been set up in Perth as part of efforts to tackle lockdown isolation.

Local business owner Pete Chan has launched the weekly scheme in partnership with the Perth branch of mental health group Andy’s Man Club.

It started with participants being given a bag of chips and an Irn-Bru before setting out from Craigie Cross.
