National recognition for nurses

-

TWO staff members from NHS Tayside’s assisted conception unit (ACU) have won national awards for their work helping couples conceive.

Nurse sedationist Jennifer Ulyatt and trainee clinical embryologist Morven Dean were honoured at the recent British Fertility Society conference.

Jennifer was awarded the British Fertility Society Nursing Prize for her work in “nurse sedation service for assisted reproduction procedures and a patient centred approach”.

Morven received the pre-registration Jean Purdy Prize for her research work titled “Exploring the maximal potential in human sperm”.

Consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Sarah Martins Da Silva said: “I am delighted to congratulate both members of our team on their awards.

“Ninewells is the only UK IVF unit to have nurse-led sedation and this is wonderful recognition at a national level.”

The assisted conception unit at Ninewells is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of medical, nursing, scientific and administrative staff.

The unit also recently won the silver award in the outstanding team (clinical) category in NHS Tayside’s Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) awards.
