Gran’s delight as couple visit on wedding day

WHEN Kirriemuir groom Ewan Dyce learned about the latest coronavirus restrictions, he knew his big day would have to change.

But there was no way the apprentice sign designer was going to let his 97-year-old granny Evelyn Dyce miss out entirely.

So Ewan and his bride Rachel both organised trips to the old lady’s care home so she could give them her best wishes in person.

Ewan said: “After the blow of the latest restrictions which meant she couldn’t go, we thought the least we could do was see her through the window and get some photos.”

The happy couple visited Evelyn in her Balhousie Lisden care home, in Kirriemuir, on the way to their wedding ceremony at Kinkell Byre in St Andrews earlier this month.

They both popped in separately to visit her to ensure no bad luck on the big day.

Ewan added: “We organised this the day before and so the staff at the care home were in on the surprise.

“It was a really special moment to visit my granny on the day of the wedding to see her eldest grandson get married.

“When we told everyone what we had done on the way to the wedding they thought it was such a lovely thing to do.

“Granny was absolutely over the moon and now has all the photos hanging up on her wall,” he added.

Evelyn was delighted to see them. She said: “Ewan was looking so bright and lovely and she was a bonny bride.”

Balhousie Lisden care home manager Richard Lake wished the couple the very best.

He said: “Ewan and Rachel’s visit meant the world to Evelyn but it also really lifted the spirits of all our residents and staff.

“We’d like to thank the newlyweds and wish them a very happy life together.”

Balhousie Care Group formed 27 years ago to provide quality residential care in north-east Scotland.

It was one of the first care homes in the region to introduce a ban on non-essential visitors, including family, as the first wave of coronavirus took hold in March last year.
