Spurs starlet cuts short his loan spell

-

DUNDEE’S on-loan defender Malachi Fagan-Walcott is returning to parent club Tottenham Hotspur.

The talented young centreback’s time at Dens Park lasted less than two matches after picking up a hamstring injury in Saturday’s win over Arbroath.

Dark Blues boss James McPake yesterday morning revealed the 19-year-old’s season was over after a scan on the injury confirmed the club’s worst fears.

McPake said: “Sadly Malachi is returning to Tottenham on Saturday.

“The scan came back and the injury was pretty severe. It’s a tendon problem that we hoped it wasn’t going to be.

“It’s very unfortunate and I’m gutted for Malachi because he’s just come back from a bad knee injury and it looked like he was going to get a run of games with us. Sadly that is halted.

“We thank Tottenham for giving us such a highly-rated player. He’ll go back there and do his rehab and we will hopefully see him playing for Tottenham in the near future.”

Ahead of tonight’s trip to Alloa, McPake is hopeful he will have experienced defender Liam Fontaine ready to return after he picked up an Achilles problem.

And there may also be a return to the squad for Jordon Forster after he fell down the pecking order following Fagan-Walcott’s arrival.

“Hopefully, Liam Fontaine will be back, he was close for Tuesday night,” McPake added.

“Jordon Forster could potentially be part of the squad on Friday, too.

“He’s back fit and has been looking good. He’s back training every day now which is good.”

Meanwhile, Alloa boss Peter Grant has warned his players to cut out individual errors if they want to avoid the drop

– starting at Dundee tonight. The Championship basement club could move to within a point of Arbroath in ninth spot with a win over the Dark Blues but Grant says individual mistakes are a big worry.

The Wasps boss explained: “If we’re really honest, no one has scored any wonder goals against us so far. Most of them have been errors on our part, which is really frustrating.

“We can’t afford to let our guard down or only concentrate for 85 minutes in a game.

“It’s the absolute basics we need to be better at, because our performances have been relatively OK but we’ve let ourselves down with results too often. Winning last Saturday at Queen of the South was great and we have to build on it.”

Alloa’s hosts lost in midweek and Grant reckons his men could face a backlash as he added: “I wasn’t shocked by Ayr winning at Dundee, this division is ruthless and we’ve seen bottom beat the top many times.”

Grant will be without the suspended Alan Trouten, while Robert Thomson, Liam Dick, Scott Taggart and Stefan Scougall are all doubts.
