McKenzie said: “When we heard about the result we were overwhelme­d.

“This fantastic result was due to a combined effort by our school family and parish community who have all contribute­d to the collection.

“We would like to thank everyone who has helped to support us.

“The money will be used to develop our playground and outdoor equipment.

“Over the next year we are hoping to make positive changes to our playground and facilities in order to give our young people better outdoor learning experience­s.

“The money will make a huge difference to our pupils and the community in lifting spirits, making the playground a more welcoming and engaging space where they can play and interact with friends.”

TEN primary schools in Angus will be closed today due to power failure caused by Storm Arwen.

Angus Council announced all the schools have no power as a result of the extreme weather over the weekend.

The schools affected are: Airlie Primary School; Auchterhou­se Primary School; Colliston Primary School; Cortachy Primary School; Isla Primary School; Maisondieu Primary School, Brechin; Monikie Primary School; Murroes Primary School; Newbigging Primary School; and Newtyle Primary School.

All the schools will be closed for the full school day, the council statement said.

No closures have been announced in Perth and Kinross, Dundee or Fife.
