Slick Stars notch up double century

- BY KRIS SMITH

A REPLENISHED Dundee Stars side won both their matches this weekend and collected four valuable league points with wins over Manchester Storm and Belfast Giants.

On Saturday night, Stars regained Sebastian Bengtsson and Philippe Sanche to the line-up, with the latter opening the scoring after just nine minutes.

The visitors tied the game on 28 minutes and it came as they were shorthanded.

With Jared Vanwormer in the penalty box for slashing, Storm broke up the ice and with Cameron Critchlow’s shot from distance deflected up and over Dundee goalie Adam Morrison.

Two minutes later, Adam Brady put Manchester into the lead.

The Taysiders needed a big third period and, after 50 minutes, Sanche provided just that.

The skilful Canadian bagged his brace by whacking home a loose puck and eventually chipping it home then, with less than two minutes to play, Dundee grabbed the winner as Connor Sills sent a rising shot into the net.

Omar Pacha’s men shut down Storm for the final 90 seconds and held on to claim their 200th Elite League win in franchise history.

Last night in Northern Ireland, Stars took the lead in the opening period through Charlie Combs.

Omar Pacha’s men were still in front to start the second period but had a few penalties to kill off throughout the middle period.

Ciaran Long levelled on 36 minutes but Combs’ second strike of the evening put Dundee in front again nine minutes later.

Drydn Dow made it 3-1 and, although Jordan Boucher pulled one back, the Taysiders held on.

Stars face Nottingham Panthers at home on Saturday.
