EX-DUNDEE United player Lawrence Shankland has joined stars including Ed Sheeran and Samuel L Jackson in a trailer for the BBC show Peaky Blinders.

The trailer, which was posted to the BBC iPlayer Twitter account, features quotes from a handful of famous stars from around the world who have praised the hit BBC show.

Among them are Richard Osman, Chance the Rapper and former United forward Lawrence Shankland.

In the trailer, Shankland calls the show “magnificent”.

He later joked about his inclusion in the advert on his own Twitter account, saying: “Some very valuable opinions here.

“New series soon buzzing!”

He added: “Can’t wait for me, Mourinho, Ed Sheeran and Samuel L Jackson to go out for food soon.”

The trailer comes as fans eagerly await the sixth season of the hit show, which has been on the air since September 2013.

The new season, which is rumoured to be the last, is expected to be released in the first half of next year, however no further details have been given.

Created by Steven Knight, Peaky Blinders is a British period drama that follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family, starting after the end of the First World War.

Set in Birmingham, the fictional family is loosely based on an urban youth gang of the same name that was active in the city from the 1890s to the early 20th Century.

Starring Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory and Paul Anderson, the show won Best Drama Series at the 2018 BAFTA TV Awards.

The show has featured many iconic moments throughout British history, including the General Strike of 1926 and a rally in 1929 by British fascist leader Oswald Mosley.

Shankland, of course, is no stranger to people in the city, having scored 32 goals in 59 appearances for Dundee United during his two-year spell at Tannadice between 2019 and 2021.

The striker, 26, started his career with then amateur side Queen’s Park, where he quickly showed an eye for goal, netting 11 times in 34 appearances.

He moved to Aberdeen but couldn’t make himself a fixture at Pittodrie and was farmed out on loan to Dunfermline, St Mirren and Morton.

However, it was on joining Ayr United that people began to take notice of Shankland as he smashed in 50 goals during his 61 appearances for The Honest Men.

Many teams were keen to secure his services, but it was United who won the race and he signed up at Tannadice on a three-year contract.

Earlier this year, Shankland was on the move again as he signed with the Belgian side Beerschot for an undisclosed fee.

He has scored twice in nine appearances for Beerschot.

While he was at Tannadice, Shankland grabbed the attention of Scotland boss Steve Clarke and made his international debut in a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Russia.

He played alongside Andy Robertson who had been a team-mate at Queen’s Park seven years earlier and had also starred at Tannadice on his way to Hull and Liverpool.

He has made four international appearances, scoring once against San Marino at Hampden Park in October 2019.

Shankland has averaged a goal nearly every two games throughout his career, having scored 143 times in 302 appearances.
