Paedophile jailed over vile videos

- BY ROSS GARDINER

Charlie Delaney, 77, was wished a fond farewell from pupils and parents alike after his final shift yesterday.

He has been a lollipop man in Broughty Ferry for the past five years, most recently at Forthill Primary School.

Before that, Mr Delaney saw children

A DUNDEE paedophile who was found to be in a social media group where repulsive abuse videos were being shared has been jailed again.

Shane Reilly, who was caught harbouring child abuse videos last winter, was also placed on the sex offenders register for a decade.

Reilly, who appeared in court by video link on his 26th birthday yesterday, had previously admitted taking or permitting to take indecent photographs of children.

Police found dozens of vile videos when they raided his flat in Balgarthno Road last January 13.

His mobile phone contained videos of children as young as three being abused.

Some of the videos were categorised as being the highest level of depravity.

Cyber-crime officers also found Reilly had been participating in a social media group chat with other paedophiles.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard police raided his home early in the morning while Reilly was out.

When he returned, officers were still looking for devices.

His phone was seized and police found that he was in a Kik messenger group chat which involved young girls.

Defence solicitor Carolyn Leckie suggested Reilly had “commitment and indeed, drive” to get help.

She said: “There was a period he was burying his head in the sand.

“I think it’s apparent that Mr Reilly does accept full responsibility. It’s quite striking how keen he is not to make excuses.

“He’s been asking for input. He wishes to speak with an appropriate professional.

“He seems to be at the point where he is wanting help and to address his offending behaviour. He is resigned to it being another custodial sentence.”

The HMP Low Moss inmate pled guilty at a previous court hearing to harbouring the files between December 12 2019 and January 13 last year.

Reilly had been made subject to a bail order from Alloa Sheriff Court just a month before. He also admitted missing a hearing at Dundee Sheriff Court on July 13 this year.

Reilly is currently serving a 30month prison sentence and his earliest date of release had been next October.

The sheriff jailed him for a year.
