‘Armed police’ block off road in warrant arrest

A GROUP of “armed police” reportedly blocked off a busy road in Dundee as they carried out an arrest warrant late on Wednesday evening.

Around eight police cars swarmed on the A92 on Greendykes Road at around 10.30pm.

Local residents reported seeing armed police and a man being led away by officers from a property.

One onlooker, who lives on Carlochie Place, said: “There was about eight police cars and then someone got dragged out in hand cuffs.

“The police brought out loads of bags as well.

“It was dark because it was at night but you could see some police officers were armed by the way they were carrying themselves, it looked like they had rifles.

“They must have done it on the sneak because there were no lights or sirens.

“They had blocked off the road and a lorry had to mount the kerb because there was a police car with its lights off at the bottom of the road.

“It’s unusual for them to block the roads with no lights on and they were also up the side street.”

A resident of Greendykes Road also said she saw armed police in the area.

“I’m not sure what was going on but there was quite a lot of police cars,” she said.

“Some officers looked armed and when everything was starting to die down, I saw some of them taking off vests.”

A Carlochie Place resident said: “I saw a couple of police cars nearby but I thought they were just traffic police, they didn’t have their sirens on or anything.

“It’s usually quite a quiet area, never usually much bother.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said officers were carrying out an arrest for an outstanding warrant.
