Accused claims ‘bodies buried’

A DUNDEE man smashed the windows of a neighbour’s flat and struggled with police after claiming his “family was buried” under the pavement.

Martin Low, 40, had gone to clear snow from a path in the middle of winter last year when the commotion started.

He appeared via video link from HMP Perth at Dundee Sheriff Court, where he pled guilty to offences of threatening and abusive behaviour and possession of weapons.

Depute fiscal Stewart Duncan told the court: “The accused was scraping snow from the drive in Lansdowne Court.

“He went inside the house, took a kitchen knife from the drying rack.

“He appeared confused.

“The witness to the event told him to go to bed but he went back outside to scrape away more snow.

“He was heard to shout ‘I know you’ve got bodies buried under your flat’.

“He then smashed a window.

“Officers attended, he was arrested and searched.

“He was found to have a pair of scissors.

“He shouted further: ‘You’ve got my family under your house...I am coming to get you’.”

Defence solicitor Anika Jethwa, in mitigation for Low, said: “It had been snowing.

“He had an adverse reaction to the consumption of drugs.”

Sheriff Paul Brown deferred sentence for restriction of liberty and criminal justice social work reports and remanded Low until his next appearance.

Low, of Ward Road, admitted that on January 14 2021, at Lansdowne Square he acted in a threatening and abusive manner in that he shouted, swore and brandished a shovel.

He further admitted smashing a window, being in possession of scissors without lawful authority and possessing a shovel.

He admitted committing the offence while on bail.

He will return to court for sentencing on June 28.
