Arbroath swoop to sign up former Pars keeper on year’s deal
ARBROATH have made their first signing of the summer, bringing in goalkeeper Cammy Gill.
The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the Lichties.
Gill has been brought in as a back-up to first-choice keeper Derek Gaston, following the departure of Calum Antell.
“I’m delighted to have signed Cammy,” the Lichties gaffer Dick Campbell said.
“He has the potential to be a top goalie. He went down to Cowdenbeath to get first-team football and did that, playing more than 30 games for them. Now he is looking to move up to a higher level.”
“Cammy is a good keeper and can definitely push Derek for the position.”
The stopper previously had a short loan spell at Gayfield in 2017, but did not feature. Gill spent last season with League Two side Cowdenbeath, making 33 appearances for the Fife side. Prior to that, he spent five years with Dunfermline Athletic. The former Scotland U20s cap featured 20 times for the East End Park side.
Meanwhile, Dale Hilson has penned a new deal with the club. The 29-yearold forward’s deal is due to expire at the end of the month, but has now signed a one-year extension.
Hilson joined the Gayfield side from local rivals Forfar in January 2020 with the Lichties paying a fee for his services. Since then he has featured 68 times under Campbell, netting seven goals.
Campbell believes there is more to come from his striker, saying: “Dale is still to show how good a player he is. He has had troubles with injuries, but he’ll be fit for the start of the season.
“He would have featured in the play-offs had he not broken his hand. Dale is a bit like Steven Doris – he works his backside off for you. Everybody at the club loves him.”
