Driver sacked by Deliveroo after pinching parcel

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

A DUNDEE delivery driver has been sacked by Deliveroo after he was caught on camera stealing a parcel from a doorstep.

The bungling thief was filmed pinching a games console which had been left outside a home on Brown Constable Street.

The parcel has since been returned but Deliveroo says the driver no longer works for the online food delivery company.

A doorbell camera caught the thief entering the Stobswell close at around 7.30pm on Friday.

As he ascends the stairs the male can be seen carrying a Co-op grocery bag, while a parcel is visible on the landing below.

The driver then returns without the bag and swipes the package from the doorstep.

Garry Bradley said the parcel contained a £100 handheld games console for his son.

Within hours of sharing the footage on social media on Tuesday, the ill-gotten gains were returned.

Garry said: “It wasn’t so much the monetary value against the item, it was the principle that someone thinks it’s OK to do that and not face the consequences.

“The parcel was returned shortly after midnight on Wednesday.

“All the lights are off and you can’t see him this time.”

A spokeswoman for Deliveroo confirmed the driver no longer works for the delivery giant.

She said: “We have investigated this incident and having verified what took place, we’ve closed this rider’s account with immediate effect.”

Co-op also confirmed they are aware of the incident.

A spokesman said: “We’re aware of an allegation against a third-party delivery worker and the matter has been raised with their employer.”

Police Scotland also received a report of the theft.
