Injured man was ‘covered in blood’
A MAN is in hospital with serious injuries after being found badly hurt in a Dundee close.
Workmen found the 37-yearold “covered in blood” and unresponsive in the Stobswell block of flats yesterday morning.
An appeal for witnesses has been launched and the man has been described as being in a “serious but stable” condition in Ninewells Hospital.
A police presence remained around the Balmore Street flats last night as officers conducted doorto-door inquiries.
Police were also searching communal bins for evidence.
One tradesman contacted emergency services after discovering the man with severe face and head injuries.
He said: “We were coming in the block and noticed the man at the rear of the close.
“It was hard to see him properly where he was situated.
I“I went over to make sure he was OK and saw his face was covered in blood.
“He was unresponsive so phoned the emergency services.
“Police have taken a statement from myself but there was only so much we could tell them.
“They’ve been conducting inquiries in the area since.”
Another man said there had been “extensive” inquiries in the area as he went to shops on Albert Street.
He said: “I heard the guy had been found in the close and the ambulance was at the scene.
“The police have gone into several blocks of flats on Balmore Street and they’ve also spoken with some local business premises.
“There has been a police officer stationed at the close door throughout the morning.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch, particularly a man seen in the street the same morning.
Detective Sergeant Craig Kelly said: “We are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident and how this man has come about his injuries.
“I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time who witnessed anything significant, or who has information that may help us, to please get in touch.
“Our early inquiries have established that there was a man seen in Balmore Street who may have information that will assist us and we are keen to trace him as soon as possible.
“He is described as around 5ft 10in in height and of slim build. He was wearing khaki trousers, a black top and a red baseball cap. I’d urge him to contact us.
“I would also ask anyone driving in the area this morning with dashcam footage, or anyone with personal footage to contact us.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference number 0821 of June 3.
