Widow gutted by callous break-in

A DUNDEE widow has been left “devastated” after her late husband’s possessions were stolen during a daytime break-in.

The mum-of-two returned to her Pitkerro Drive home at the end of last month to find a man climbing out of the property with items thought to be worth about £1,000.

The haul included a PS5 and an Xbox One that had previously belonged to her husband, who died in April.

The 36-year-old – who does not want to be identified – said: “When I entered the house I heard rustling in the kitchen.

“I shouted, ‘Who’s there?’ When I went to the kitchen at the back of the house a man was climbing through the windowpane in the door.

“He managed to leg it through the back garden and used a chair outside to climb into another garden.

“I noticed he’d taken the games consoles belonging to my husband and other items.

“We are just completely devastated and disgusted that someone has come in and done this.

“My husband only passed away in April this year so we are extremely vulnerable.”

The council have come and made the property secure but that has not eased the woman’s fears.

She said: “It looks like the person has removed the glass pane from the door and managed to climb in.

“The council have come and boarded the window up.”

The woman says that while she is not hopeful of getting the possessions back, forensics officers were able to take evidence from the scene.

She added: “I called the police shortly after the incident at around 4pm. The police arrived and the forensics came a short while later and they’ve taken prints off the back door. There were also spatters of blood left at the scene and gardening tools which the police have taken.

“I’ve lived here for over three years and I’d always felt safe before this, but that feeling gone now.

“At nights I’ve been leaving lights on just to try and give me some peace of mind.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland says no arrests have been made over the May 30 incident, but officers are following “positive lines of inquiry”.
