Marble fans are on a roll
FOUR free workshops across the city will give Dundee marble fans the opportunity to build interactive runs from scratch using recycled resources – and to take part in a Guinness World Record attempt.
ScrapAntics and Creative Dundee’s regional project CULTIVATE are delivering the family-friendly marble run-making workshops with the United Nations Board of Significant Inspiration (UNBOSI).
Workshops are happening at weekends between 11am-3pm in various outdoor locations across Dundee: Gardyne Campus on June 25 and 26, Hilltown Park on July 9 and 10, Eadie’s Park on July 16 and 17, and in City Square from July 21 to 24 as part of the Dundee Summer (Bash) Streets Festival.
Workshops are open to participants of all ages, with no need to book in advance. Just drop-in and have a go at building a marble run, with the help from of the knowledgeable marbologists and using the reclaimed materials on hand, all of which are provided.
Claire Dufour, creative climate producer of Creative Dundee, said: “Our CULTIVATE programme is all about engaging people about what really matters to us all locally and helping communities develop local climate actions that are relevant to the place we live.
“We’re so pleased to collaborate with a brilliant set of organisations, which are sharing these values!”
Sandy Greene, ScrapAntics founder and managing director, said: “ScrapAntics team includes artists, community workers, teachers, play and youth workers; we are all guided by our passion for creativity and social justice. We are super excited to collaborate with the playful adventures of the magical marbles of UNBOSI, finding their way around Dundee communities to the city square in June and July this summer.”
UNBOSI are bringing their Marble Awareness Roadshow to City Square where there will also be the opportunity to be part of a Guinness World Record attempt.
Roger Hartley, UN director general, said: “We at UNBOSI are incredibly excited by the discoveries we’ve been making around the inspiration levels here in Dundee. It’s rare to find a MUSE cache of this potency and so that’s why we’re encouraging as many people as possible to make marble runs, to work together to spread this inspiration as far and wide as we can.”
A festival spokesperson said: “The Marvellous Marble World Record Attempt at 3pm on
Sunday 24th July is set to be one of the highlights of the Dundee Summer (Bash) Streets Festival.
“We’re all looking forward to seeing the public’s creations and having fun in the city centre, getting ready from Thursday 21st for the amazing official world record attempt for the biggest and best marble loop-theloop ever.”
