‘Puzzling’ decision by Shankly to replace keeper Liney with Slater

-

“Can you shed any light on that?”

I don’t have any information other than manager Bob Shankley reckoning he had secured a better goalkeeper in Bert Slater.

If anyone has any views on this, then get in touch.

■ FORMER Lochee resident Rob Boag, now residing in Canada, still maintains contact with a former colleague and fellow artisan, Doug Bruce.

Said Rob: “Recently, Doug recalled that memorable April 1962 day for Dundee FC supporters at Muirton Park when they won the league.

“He is a life-long dedicated DFC supporter.

“I’ve sent in an old photo of four young lads at Dens, and Doug is the lad in the photo, left, who resembles a young James Dean.”

■ STAYING with the Dark Blues, and supporter Danny Smith, who compiles The Dee Archive, is looking for assistance in naming some trialists who played in friendlies when John Brown was Dundee boss.

Match reports from the games in question don’t reveal the trialists, so Danny is hoping coverage in BwB may trigger the memory of a fellow-Dark Blues fan, a family member or even the player himself.

Said Danny: “On July 9, 2013, Dundee won 5-1 at Montrose. Who was the trialist goalkeeper?

“On July 13” 2013,

Dundee won 1-0 away against Dick Campbell’s Forfar Athletic.

“Same again, a trialist goalkeeper, but probably the same as the Montrose one.

“Finally, on August 3, 2013, The Dee beat junior side Lochee United 4-1 at Thomson Park. Who was the trialist playing as a striker?”
