Store opening brings West End jobs boost City PA is ScotRail’s employee of year
GLASGOW’S West End is set for a mini jobs boost.
Retail giant B&M Bargains is recruiting ahead of the launch of a new store at the Great Western Retail Park.
Bosses plan to hire 40 staff before the store opens on Saturday, November 15.
Store manager June McMullen said: “We’re proud to be creating another 40 jobs this year and continuing to play our part in the local community.”
Representatives from the Yorkhill Children’s Charity will perform a ribbon cutting ceremony at the store.
It’s the second jobs boost by the chain for Glasgow this year. B&M chiefs created 60 jobs when they opened a store at the Forge Retail Park in Parkhead in March. LIZ McGair has seen off almost 5000 colleagues to be named ScotRail’s Employee of the Year.
The 50-year-old from East Kilbride, who is a personal assistant at the rail operator’s head office in Glasgow, polled the most votes cast by workmates.
She said: “I can’t believe my colleagues took the time to vote for me.”
Mick Dougan, a 63-yearold conductor team manager at Glasgow Central, who lives in Uddingston, picked up an award for his “outstanding contribution” to the business
ScotRail’s managing director Steve Montgomery said: “Recognising the hard work and efforts of our staff is one of our top priorities.”
