Chelsea legend slates ‘under-achiever’ Roo

- By KEN MILLER

FORMER Chelsea star Alan Hudson has launched an amazing attack on Wayne Rooney – and branded England’s captain a massive underachiever.

After Sam Allardyce was appointed England manager Rooney said he’s ready to prove his doubters wrong.

Rooney fans argue that because he’s England’s top goalscorer with 53 goals, he deserves a place in the team but the striker has only converted three goals in his last four major tournaments.

Hudson said: “He has had two big tournaments in the last two years to prove his worth, hasn’t he? I’m sorry but those who watched the last two competitions can’t say he’s performed well.

“If you are going to make a statement do it in those very important 90 minutes.

“But what bothers me, and always has, is that the England team don’t seem to have any pride in their performances, if the dismal Euros and World Cup performances are anything to go by.

“Most people believe players peak at the young age of 28 but I have seen no sign of this with Rooney.”

Meanwhile, outgoing FA chairman Greg Dyke has delivered a blistering parting shot at the Euro 2016 flops. Greg Dyke said Roy Hodgson’s squad had enough talent to win the whole tournament, Greg Dyke has said.

The outgoing chairman of the Football Association said he felt the young England team had the potential to outplay finalists France and Portugal, despite their exit in the round-of-16 stage.

Dyke said: “I don’t think Portugal were that good and I don’t think France were that good - I think we could have won in 2016, but we didn’t, did we?”

“We’ve got a talented group of players at the moment and it’s about making sure they perform.”
