6ft7 Tijuee can make big impact at Warriors

-

GIGANTIC Glasgow Warriors recruit Tjiuee Uanivi is vowing to make a big impression with the Scotstoun fans.

The 6ft 7in Namibia international has joined the Warriors from South African Super Rugby franchise, the Sharks until at least May 2017.

Before that he had a spell with the Sharks following a number impressive displays at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

He said: “I was looking for options and as soon as I heard Glasgow were interested, I was up for it and excited to come here.

“When I spoke to Gregor Townsend he told me about the philosophy of rugby here which was one of the convincing factors.

“He told me that if I work hard enough I could get game time.”

Reflecting on his career so far which has seen him play in Namibia, the 25-year-old told Warriors TV: “I played 7s for Namibia before moving to France, becoming a professional for Brive after being in the Academy.

“After playing in the Rugby World Cup for Namibia I had a short stint at The Sharks, before now coming over here to Glasgow.

“Playing for the Sharks was really good. There were a lot of good players and it’s a good team in South Africa with a lot of pressure which makes you a better player. I’m glad I experienced it.”

In France, Uanivi competed in the European Rugby Challenge Cup but arriving at a club playing Champions Cup rugby is something that really excites him.

He said: “The Champions Cup is a really exciting competition. Playing in France was really good as everyone is rugby crazy and I think it is the same here as all the fans want the Warriors to do well.

“I can’t wait to play my first game.
