Wiggins to race in Tour of Britain
CYCLING star Sir Bradley Wiggins will be part of a stellar line-up for the Tour of Britain which begins in Glasgow on September 4.
The 2012 Tour de France champion, who won an eighth Olympic medal with a triumphant gold in the team pursuit in Rio earlier this month, will race for his eponymous Team WIGGINS squad.
Joining him on Britain’s biggest professional cycle race at George Square a week on Sunday will be 2011 world road race champ Mark Cavendish, who took silver in the omnium in Rio.
The line-up also includes fellow team pursuit gold medallist Owain Doull alongside leading cycling names such as Andre Greipel and Steve Cummings.
Stage one of the eight-day race begins in Glasgow and will then travel south to finish at Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway.
Tour of Britain race director Mick Bennett said: “We are delighted to be welcoming two of our Olympic champions to the Tour of Britain just three weeks after their success in Rio.
“As a former winner of the Tour of Britain it is always a pleasure to welcome Sir Bradley Wiggins back to Britain’s biggest race, while Owain Doull was the star of the 2015 Tour, showing he has a very bright future ahead of him.”
