Pub gets student makeover
THE Howgait, formerly called The Lee, has reopened to the public following a five-figure refurbishment.
Located on St James’ Road, Townhead, with the new Glasgow City College building and University of Strathclyde halls of residence nearby, the pub will cater for the city’s rising student population.
The pub’s general manager, Matthew Tyre, said: “The regulars really like what we have done with the pub and now we’re just gearing up for the students to come back and it will be all systems go.”
Howgait may historically refer to times when the area was famous for public hangings but will create its own history by offering a great new addition to the area’s student social scene.
Two meals are £8.99 and Sundays will offer breakfast until 5pm. Other key events across the week include a Monday night pool competition, Wednesday night craft beer tasting and football, and an open mic night on Friday.
