Sutton bust-up ref back on BT...

- By JOHN McGILL

CRAIG THOMSON will be back on BT Sport tonight – just four days after risking the wrath of the broadcaster.

He has been selected to take charge of Red Bull Salzburg’s Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Zagreb and, with the TV giants enjoying exclusive rights to the tournament, his outing will be available on the channel’s red button service.

The assignment will afford Thomson some respite from the controversy surrounding his last domestic outing at McDiarmid Park on Saturday.

The Scottish whistler reportedly started Celtic’s Ladbrokes Premiership fixture against St Johnstone more than a minute ahead of schedule and refused to co-operate with BT Sport staff.

Thomson is understood to be seething following harsh criticism from pundit and former Celtic star Chris Sutton.

He accused the experienced referee of “bottling it” by not sending off Rangers winger Harry Forrester during a recent encounter at Dens Park.

While BT Sport are seeking an explanation regarding the incident, the 44-year-old will be in Austria tonight, where Salzburg will be seeking to finish the job following a creditable 1-1 draw in Croatia last week.

Thomson will be assisted by fellow Scots David McGeachie and Alan Mulvanny, with Kevin Clancy and Andrew Dallas acting as additional assistant referees. Compatriot Stuart Stevenson has been named as fourth official.
