Bagpipe lung fear after piper death
DOCTORS have warned of “bagpipe lung” after a player died from a reaction to mouldy pipes.
Doctors writing in the journal Thorax have said wind instruments should be cleaned regularly.
Dr Jenny King, a member of the team at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester that treated the piper, told the BBC the problem was easily treated if caught early.
The 61-year-old patient described in the journal had been ill for a number of years but doctors noted his condition had improved when he went abroad and did not play for a while.
