Tigers roar silenced by shock league defeat

-

GLASGOW suffered two sickening blows to their 2016 trophy tilt – as they were put out of the Premier League title race and lost a rider to injury.

Sheffield produced one of the shocks of the season to beat the Ashfield side by just two points, 91-89, on aggregate in their play-offs semi-final.

Meanwhile, Tigers reserve Coty Garcia’s season could be over after he crashed out of heat 14 with a leg injury and was facing a trip to hospital.

It means Glasgow’s only chance of silverware this season rests on their KO Cup final against Newcastle on Sunday and Monday.

TENNIS Andy Murray will play Wimbledon hero Marcus Willis in this weekend’s Tie Break Tens exhibition in Vienna.

The pair have been drawn in the same group for the event on Sunday along with former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic. The trio will battle each other over a first-to-10points tie-break, with the overall winner of the tournament, which also features Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Dominic Thiem and Tommy Haas, pocketing the $250,000 prize pot.

Willis, burst into the spotlight at Wimbledon this summer ranked 772 and won seven matches to set up a secondround clash with Roger Federer while.

The 26-year-old fancies his chances of giving Murray a test, saying: “It’s 10 points. Accrington Stanley would lose to Manchester United over 90 minutes, but in a 10-minute match they would stand a chance.”

Murray is on a 10-match winning streak after claiming titles in Beijing and Shanghai.

FORMULA ONE Lewis Hamilton has vowed to take his likely defeat to Nico Rosberg in the title race “like a man” as he turned on the charm offensive in the US. Hamilton, who attracted criticism in Japan after he fooled around on his mobile phone during the pre-race press conference, was summoned by the sport’s governing body to appear in front of the media yesterday.

Hamilton answered the questions directed at him in a courteous, polite manner.

“I will try and take it like a man if Nico wins the championship,” he said. “You can’t win them all.”
